Civil Engineering - higher apprenticeship overview

Aimed at college students, this programme gives young people an opportunity to earn money while gaining hands on and practical civil engineering experience and academic qualifications. Working as part of our project delivery teams alongside our plant and site operatives, trainees will be exposed to setting out, GPS technology, cost control, procurement as well as health and safety and environment matters.


If you are already part way through a civil engineering qualification and you are able to complete your course part time, there may be opportunities for sponsorship through the remainder of your course on a day release basis while gaining experience and earning money on one of our projects.

what qualifications will i gain?

You will gain the follow qualifications on the civil engineering higher apprenticeship:


  • HNC/HND in Civil Engineering
  • Level 3-6 NVQ
  • Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) Card
  • Peripheral qualifications including Health and Safety Awareness and First Aid.

training

Participants will attend college on a day release basis to receive training and work towards their qualification. On the job training is provided at our construction sites throughout the UK.

duration

The scheme can take up to two years to complete but could come to an end sooner if the qualification is gained in less time.

entry requirements

Entry requirements will vary depending on the college providing the course. As a guide applicants should possess at least one A level or an equivalent BTEC qualification in a relevant field, with appropriate supporting passes at GCSE grades in at least 4 subjects including Maths. Work experience will also be taken into consideration.


If you are already enrolled on a course and there is a possibility of completing the course on a part time basis, there may be an opportunity for you to join our scheme for the remainder of your course.

progression

Successful completion of your Civil Engineering qualification can lead to you becoming a Site Engineer at Jones Bros.Continual professional development is encouraged and we may support you through further academic study of degree and masters qualifications. Once academic qualifications have been achieved, progression to professional qualifications with the Institute of Civil Engineers (ICE) can follow.


Many of our past trainee engineers have progressed to be Site Agents and Project Managers responsible for multi million pound civil engineering schemes throughout the UK. Some of the most senior positions in the Company are occupied by our former Trainee Engineers including Major Projects Managers and Regional Managers.
