Civil Engineering Degree Apprenticeships

We recruit aspiring Civil Engineers across England, Scotland and Wales onto the BEng (Hons) Civil Engineering Degree Apprenticeship with Wrexham University, combining academic study with paid, hands-on experience.

With over 24 apprentices currently enrolled, the programme reflects our strong commitment to developing in-house talent. Apprentices gain practical experience on live projects while working alongside experienced engineers, building the skills and confidence needed for long term careers.

After completing the programme, apprentices progress into permanent engineering roles, contributing to major projects across the UK.

Quantity Surveying Degree Apprenticeships

We are developing our Quantity Surveying apprenticeship pathway through the BSc (Hons) Quantity Surveying Degree Apprenticeship with Wrexham University, combining academic study with practical workplace experience.

Currently, two apprentices are enrolled, marking an early but growing step in strengthening our commercial capability. Apprentices gain key commercial, contractual and project management skills while applying their learning to live projects, supporting their progression toward becoming qualified Quantity Surveyors.

Plant Operative Training Scheme

We have strengthened our commitment to new entrants by launching our own Operative Training Scheme, a business-funded alternative following the withdrawal of Level 2 apprenticeship funding in Wales.

This 15-month programme provides a structured introduction to civil engineering, combining health, safety and environmental training with practical plant and site-based experience across the UK. Trainees develop skills operating key equipment such as excavators, dump trucks and loading shovels.

Participants work towards industry-recognised qualifications, including CPCS cards, NVQ Level 2 and H&S certifications, while earning a competitive wage with benefits and progression opportunities.

On completion, trainees can move into permanent roles, with many progressing into supervisory and management positions on major UK projects.

Construction Plant Maintenance Apprenticeship

We have established a partnership with a further education provider to deliver a Construction Plant Maintenance Apprenticeship and are now recruiting one apprentice each year. This pathway combines training centre learning with onsite practical experience, providing a structured route into plant maintenance. The programme supports our long term commitment to skills development and strengthening our pipeline of qualified Fitters across the business.

Work Experience Placements

We continue to support students through work experience opportunities, providing valuable insight into the civil engineering industry.

In 2025, we hosted 19 students on one week placements, designed for those with a genuine interest in the industry. During their placement, students rotate across key departments including Health, Safety & Environment, Commercial, IT, Design & Construction Management, HR and Engineering, gaining broad exposure to how the business operates. The programme offers an engaging introduction to the industry, helping students explore career pathways while developing essential workplace skills.

Industrial Placements

Each year, we offer paid industrial placements nationwide, giving students hands-on experience to support their studies and future careers.

For 2026, this includes one year long placement in HR, one in Engineering, three 12-week Engineering placements, and one 12-week IT placement. Students work alongside experienced teams, contribute to real projects and develop practical skills in a professional environment.

We aim to build long-term relationships with placement students, with many returning to join us through graduate roles, apprenticeships or other early-career pathways.
